I have begun composition of my song. A song is, if anybody was wondering just a poem without a beat to it. So to put it another way i have begun composition of my poem. I have a problem though. I find that every time i write a poem i see flaws and errors that i think arent suitable for this love poem so every time i write i end up throwing it away. Anybody can come to the conclusion that at this rate i wont ever find what i am searching for in the poem and to be quite honest neither do I
I would be happy to help you in the lyric writing process if you like.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just need to get some outside feedback. I started out writing poetry when I went to grad school, then switched to stories.
ReplyDeleteAlso, sometimes writers are way too hard on themselves, sometimes way too easy.
And, finally, it's part of the process to revise and revise and revise. If you think it will come out perfectly if you sit down to write, you are asking too much of yourself.
I recently read about a poet who would be working in the fields and then "hear" a poem coming and try to rush home before she lost it. If she caught it by the "tail" before it left, she knew she had it.
Also, have you watched Elizabeth Gilbert's TED video on "Nurturing Creativity"?
Honestly I think you should stop throwing away everything you write and keep writing. In other words, save those pieces of lyrics that you find that will convey a message. You may want to just plainly write down what you think and feel and incorporate that with emotion. Don't try to make it sound good or rhyme, just write and get a spark that will help you out.
